In Goat Thrower, I make photographs with my partner, Dan Partridge, using the camera in an attempt demystify him (in turn, us). I include his belongings, many of them passed down from his American Southern family, bringing forth the past as part of the present. The resulting work is an experimental documentary series about the desire to deconstruct the adored and unknowable. The process is also an exploration into the limits of what can be excavated from the interior world(s) of one’s subject-participant via the photographic exchange.
